But do you or your friends praise them for it? Take jingoism. There was a time that pretty much everybody in the world expected to be praised for jingoism. They're still around, but they're no longer everybody.
Of course people will use things like this. The cool thing is, I don't live in a subculture where they can demand to be praised for it. More and more, they can't even use it as an effective sheild because there are more and more of us who point out to them that they aren't winning any points at all with us. And that's all I care.
