On why a work convention is less safe than an SF con: First, the work con has a general culture of male-superiority. Women will be hired to dress in skimpy clothing as part of the advertising. The waitstaff will be women in too-tight skirts and low-cut blouses. This is designed to turn off the logic centers of the male brain and get them to make purchasing decisions with their 'other head'. The typical male, bombarded with this sort of stimulation, has trouble differentiating between the female colleague and the female advertising drone. And so mistakes occur. Add in that a given woman might be reluctant to rip the balls off her boss's boss, even when he's got his hand up her skirt, and the situation gets worse.
It comes down to culture. At an SF con, the general membership will likely back up the woman in such a confrontation, and in a work con the general membership would likely back up the man. You need to change the attitude that women are there only as advertising, or as assistants to men. Good luck with that...
